Julie Foubert

Senior english teacher, living school

BACKGROUND / Academic and professional background

I have a Master’s degree in French and English Language and Literature, with a minor in Elementary Education, from Loyola University Chicago. I have worked with children since the age of 12, when I started teaching ballet at my dance studio. My professional life began in law in Brussels, where I rapidly realized that for me, children and teaching were my vocation. I was a teacher at the International American School of Warsaw before joining the Living School team in 2011.

ACHIEVEMENT/ What is the project/ initiative/startup/company you will be presenting at the LH Forum all about ?

Living School is a private, innovative preschool, primary, and elementary school, whose purpose is to foster, through the education and development of the staff, parents, and children, the emergence of responsible and fulfilled citizens into the world, who are contributors to humanity’s true evolution.

LOCATION/ In which city, country, part of the world do you conduct your activities ?

Paris, France

IMPACT/ What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental impact of the activity / project / initiative / startup / company ?

The positive impact of our school is exponential in the sense that our approach is global. On an economic level, we have developed an entire curriculum dedicated to eco-citizenship. We discuss the concepts of waste, of deforestation and the earth, organic agriculture, free trade, different energies, global warming and pollution, bio-diversity, water, international solidarity…all of this includes concrete actions taken to contribute to a better world. These actions allow us to create links with society in our own neighborhood as well as with the other side of the world (the children are pen-pals with a class in Senegal as part of their learning about Africa). Our ongoing professional development as well as the trainings offered to the parents create the possibility for all to evolve and to live a more fulfilled life, one with meaning. This extends far outside our school’s walls.
