Founded in India in 2008 as a spin-off of a Microsoft Research project that sought to investigate how technology can support small-scale agricultural systems, Digital Green works to strengthen existing agricultural, health, and nutrition extension systems by building their capacity and helping them to utilize and institutionalize appropriate technologies to increase their reach, effectiveness, and efficiency.

Vinay will be presenting the feasibility of transitioning to organic agriculture and if this could be alternative to current system of intensive agriculture.

IMPACT / What is the positive economic, social, political, environmental…of the activity, project, initiative, startup, company ?

Digital Green’s core approach is to partner with public and private extension services to empower the small holder farmers in producing short community videos on locally relevant practices that feature community members which are then screened to small groups of farmers mediated by local community members. These videos are by the farmers, of the farmers and for the farmers. Digital Green’s videos have reached over 1 million rural people to date, over 80% of who are women. Digital Green also complements its efforts through other ICT platforms such as broadcast television, radio, and mobile applications. Digital Green is committed to a culture of innovation, and it maintains an in-house technology team that builds and test technology solutions to increase program reach and effectiveness.
